Kara Weaves is an all-women partnership founded in 2007 working to bridge the gap between traditional Kerala Indian weaving techniques and modern applications. Each item is made on traditional wooden looms using ancient fabrics by local weaving co-operatives in Kerala, India.

Chitra Gopalakrishnan, co-Founder and Senior Art Director of Kara Weaves, speaks with us about using modern marketing and design skills to reimagine ancient trades and techniques for the current consumer. We'll discuss the beauty and symbolism of a maker's mark, and how Chitra has made it her mission to introduce aesthetic "imperfections" as a hallmark of handcrafted products.
