Immediately before coming to NBSS, I worked at a cattle ranch in New Mexico and before that I worked in commercial fishing in Alaska. I grew up in Bradford, Massachusetts and initially went to school for environmental studies.
I transferred to the furniture program at the California College of Arts and Crafts. I worked in a custom cabinetry shop but burned out doing production work and found myself focusing on reusing materials and repurposing buildings, which led me back to Boston and to the NBSS preservation carpentry program.
After graduation, I returned to the cattle ranch for the summer and applied for an internship with the Antarctic Heritage Trust to work on the conservation of the Shackleton and Scott sites.
