WATCH: Make a Cardboard Automata
WATCH: Make a Cardboard Automata
NBSS

An automata or automaton is a moving mechanical object that you can make out of almost any material.

In this video Emily Fazzina CF '17, an NBSS graduate and instructor in our middle school woodworking program, shows you how to make an automata out of recycled cardboard boxes and hot glue. Use this format to experiment quickly with various designs!

You'll need these supplies:

  • Empty cardboard boxes of various sizes
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks (with adult supervision if needed)
  • White Elmer's glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Paint or markers to decorate

If you have any questions as you're working on this project, you can email Emily at efazzina@nbss.edu.

And we'd love to see your finished artwork! You can send photos directly to Emily, or post on social media and tag @nbssboston or #nbssboston on Facebook and Instagram.
