In the Making

“It all revolves around creativity. Being around that creative group of people at NBSS has changed the dynamic in which I see my everyday life.”
– Jonathan Ota CF ’19

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, we held a virtual conversation with six recent alumni who have chosen careers as makers, entrepreneurs, artists, and educators—each contributing to their communities and their fields in important ways.

View a video of the full conversation above.

In the conversation moderated by NBSS staff member Kristen Odle, we were joined by graduates Jonathan Ota, 2019 Cabinet & Furniture Making; Willow Coronella, 2020 Jewelry Making & Repair; Emery Williams, 2020 Carpentry; Nick Gerald, 2019 Violin Making & Repair; Chris Laudolff, 2019 Preservation Carpentry; and Greta Llanes, 2019 Bookbinding.

They discussed what led them to train at NBSS, where they are in their careers now, lasting memories from their time at the School, and more.

“In the Making” is a new public programs series where we connect with a range of new voices, fields, and perspectives. Learn more and view a full list of participants on the series homepage.
